"The FBI found that while attacks against Muslims had previously been the least common hate crime against a religious group--just 28 in 2000--the number of incidents surged to 481 in 2001, an increase of 1,600%."
* note that the 28 events in 2000 were throughout the entire 12 month year, whereas the 481 in 2001 were in the 4 months of: september, october, november, and december.
what does this tell us about the united states? i know this sep 11 thing is a while back, and i'd like to let it rest, but i think these attacks on muslims within the u.s. is even more fucked up than the original 9/11 attacks on the u.s. itself.
these muslims are just as much united states citizens as you or i. and, believe it or not, there were muslims within the world trade towers when they were destroyed. this hurt everybody in the u.s. so why retaliate against your fellow american citizens because of their ethnicity? one word: ignorance.
This just goes to show that our political front of open arms is hypocritical bullcrap. Every kid in america, especially now, is force-fed this Patriotic, love your country garbage. I personally think that the 9/11 attacks, while atrocious, served as a wake up call for this country. These attacks on muslims are part of the reason these attacks happened-(white)Americans are taught from an early age that they are better than everyone else-a theory that helped shape this nation from the get-go. Ugh...it just disgusts me. I refuse to say the pledge of allegiance, and have done so since Kindergarten. How can i respect a country that was founded on the blood of those who stood in their way? In some ways manifest destiny has never ended. Under God? Ha...I hope I never have to face judgement under a God that supports filth and corruption. Along these lines i reccomend everyone read the Forum on the Irag crisis in the new Rolling Stone...one of the first good articles ive read in this magazine in a long time.
"We are the addicts and they are the drug dealers"
i've always hated how this country took a tragedy and turned it into a way to make money/a reason to hate someone. i have trouble sometimes deciding whether the things that make people do this are part of human nature, or simply a side effect from living in this elitist country.
Does anyone know why people began to terrorize america? Not the they think we evil and becuase we think too highly of our selfs but the real EVENTS as to why they hate us? There are 2 actual events:
1 In the Egypt-Isreal conflict the US used spy photo's from an SR-71 to end the conflict before it was a war. The US gave both sides intel as to who was placing what where as a precursor to war. Egypt said we gave more to Isreal and that was a strike against the Muslim populations.
2 Lebanon, Beirut: A failed exstraction of a informant left many civialns dead. A war plane (unknown as to what type or who's it was) dropped a bomb that went astray and hit civilains. America took the blame for a stray bomb and the Muslims screamed murder.
Now throw those 2 actual events into the whole we are satan bit they scream over Al-Jazeria and you get motivation for terrorism. It is then justified by people in power (ie Osama) by calling terrorism a Jihad. The poeple believe its a holy war, but to the leaders it is a personal thing. Finaly Don't be patriotic about sept 11, be patriotic about the people who died to get you here. And then realize nobody (especialy governments) is perfect. Don't blast Patriotism, cuase one day there might not be anyone left standing betwwen you and an enemy.
What I find funny is that Americans seemingly hate most immigrants. Wether they're Mexican, Asian, ect ect, But Americans don't remember that this nation was built on immigrants. We're a free, well developed, well fed nation. But pretty damn stupid. But, They stone their women for cheating...we just beat ours to death. It's all cool.
