my girlfriend carol just got back from the blue in green conference on the environment and human rights this weekend. she told me this story about shell oil company.
Carol: this guy from nigeria talked about shell
michael: the oil company?
Carol: and what they did to his people in nigeria
Carol: yeah
michael: what did they do?
Carol: they took over
Carol: and drilled in the ogonian's sacred land
Carol: and made them move
michael: wow
Carol: then when the people had a peaceful demonstration with more than 300,000 people
Carol: shell gave the nigerian military guns and paid them to kill people
Carol: the people who were against the drilling
Carol: basically everyone
Carol: when shell first came, they told the chiefs that they would help boost the economy and change lifestyles for the better
Carol: then made $900,000,000 off of them and didn't give them much of it at all
Carol: not off of them but off of the land
Carol: their land
michael: yeah
michael: so i shoudn't buy shell gasoline
Carol: yeah if you get a chance not to
i go to sams club to get gas. my dad's sams club card is in my wallet, so i get gas and 28 packs of gushers every week at his expense. i hate normal gas stations, cause i dont have a credit card.

ChevronTexaco owns the Texaco brand, but it does not currently sell gasoline under the Texaco brand in the U.S., nor does it operate Star Mart convenience stores in the U.S. ChevronTexaco permits Shell Oil Products US to use the Texaco brand for gasoline sales until June 30, 2006. ChevronTexaco has announced that it will begin selling gasoline under the Texaco retail brand in the U.S. on July 1, 2004. So if you haven't figured it out, If you buy from Texaco here in the US then you are buying from Shell. Hmm.. Guess that is why my Texaco card was just reissued this year as a Shell card.
