'POSSESSED' enters the complicated worlds of four hoarders; people whose lives are dominated by their relationship to possessions. The film questions whether hoarding is a symptom of mental illness or a revolt against the material recklessness of consumerism. When does collecting become hoarding and why do possessions exert such an influence on our lives?

I think hoarding and collecting very much tread a fine line. I'm definitely a collector. I have been since I was very young. The trick for me is to realize when A. The Collection is beginning to interfere with life in general and B. I need to make the collection self sustaining, IE I pay for the collection with parts of the collection. With books this is especially useful. Then again I'm also not dealing with OCD issues or using collecting as a tool to deal with grief, which is a whole nother ballgame.

I'll admit that i have a problem with hoarding. It's not that i'm materialistic (sp?) but with my OCD i just can't throw things out sometimes. When i was younger it was real bad but i've worked on it a lot and i'm getting better at it and i'm able to work past it more times than not. Here's a list of some of the weirder things i hoarded when i was younger. (i'll prolly regret posting this as soon as i submit it. oh well.....)

all my clothes from when i was a kid
every rock that i ever picked up up until i was like 10 i would bring home and stash them
any paper that i wrote on
all my teeth that fell out. ( i worked it out with the tooth fairie to get less money if i could keep my teeth.
when my hermit crabs died i would hide them until my mom would find them because the smell got so bad
at one point i couldn't even throw away wrappers. i used to hoard them in a drawer under my bed
    broken toys
    empty soda bottles

when i first moved out of my parents house i had everything i owned in boxes. No exagerrating, my bedroom had a mattress in it that i slept on and then boxes floor to ceiling with a path from the door to the mattress. This video was really good. i don't really relate to the buying side of hoarding but def have a lot of experience to the not being able to throw away things part of hoarding, and i think some of this is a real good description of the mindset of it all.
